BGS IC CAE Scholars Attend and Present at Intelligence and Cybersecurity Conference
On September 25-26, 2018, BGS IC CAE Scholars from Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) attended the 2018 Intelligence and Cybersecurity Conference hosted by The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. In addition to their attendance, several EKU students presented original research on threat groups operating in the United States to include the Alt-Right, MS-13, Animal Liberation Front, and Earth Liberation Front. The students had an opportunity to attending multiple panels consisting of expert practitioners in all aspects of cybersecurity and intelligence. Additionally, students were able to listen to keynote speeches by Daniel Coats, Director of National Intelligence (DNI), and David Bowdich, Deputy Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Both speeches highlighted advanced persistent threats (APTs) to the United States and how important collaboration, innovation, and security is to overcome these threats. Videos of the keynote speeches can be accessed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Shial_cjBIw (DNI Coats) and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZQbZ-pUER4&t (Deputy Director Bowdich).
In addition to presenting and attending conference sessions, EKU students were provided multiple opportunities to network with professionals in the field as well as other students. Each student received a grant through the BGS IC CAE to cover their associated costs to attend and participate in the conference.
