EKU Hosts Critical Thinking Applied to the Intelligence Analysis Process (CTIAP) Workshop
On February 2nd, 2018 Dr. James Hess joined BGS IC CAE Scholars to conduct a full-day workshop on critical thinking and the process of applying it to intelligence analysis. Dr. Hess is a retired U.S. Army Intelligence Officer, as well as a previous professor in the Combating Terrorism Center at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
Dr. Hess introduced the Critical Thinking Applied to the Intelligence Analysis Process (CTIAP), a process he has been working on to improve analysis efforts. The first portion of the day consisted of an overview from Dr. Hess about various intelligence methodologies and how they apply differently within the field. Following lunch, the simulation portion of the workshop began as students were all given different intelligence regarding an attack. Students utilized the tools presented to them during the first half of the day to conduct analysis on the information given to them. The day concluded with students presenting their findings and revealing that each person had different intelligence. The methods presented and used during the workshop highlighted to students the importance for multiple methodologies when conducting intelligence analysis.
