EKU Students Visit KOHS and KIFC
On October 19, 2018, students from Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) were guests of the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security (KOHS) headquartered in Frankfort, KY. The KOHS carries out multiple missions as mandated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Kentucky General Assembly. A subcomponent of KOHS is the Kentucky Intelligence Fusion Center (KIFC), which analyzes information relevant to the KOHS mission and develops intelligence products for public safety and security communities within the Commonwealth. Additional missions of the KOHS include investigation of domestic and international terrorism, threats to critical infrastructure, cyber-crimes, and organized crime as well as providing support to major events that occur within Kentucky. Students were greeted by Executive Director John Holiday, who delivered a general overview of the KOHS and the KIFC analysts who investigate the sensitive crimes mentioned above. The KIFC analysts provided overviews of the different investigatory missions and what comprises day-to-day operations at the KIFC. The event was co-sponsored by the Homeland Security and Asset Protection Leaders of Tomorrow (HALT) and the Bluegrass State Intelligence Community for Academic Excellence (BGS IC CAE).
