Scholar Partners with Local Emergency Management to Translate Disaster Documents
BGS IC CAE scholar, Katie Wyant, completed a semester-long service activity with the local Madison County Emergency Management Agency (EMA)/Chemical Stockpike Emergency Preparendess Program (CSEPP). During the service activity she translated triage and disaster signage into Spanish, which will be used in future exercises and in the case of an emergency. Wyant also assisted with the creation of new Spanish documents, pamplets, and brochures regarding local hazards and the nearby Bluegrass Army Depot (BGAD). These documents will be used within the local and surrounding communities.
Her ability to translate the documents into Spanish were cultivated during study abroad trips to Costa Rica and Argentina, which were sponsored by the BGS IC CAE program.
