Social Media Workshop
On February 5th, the Bluegrass State Intelligence Community Center of Academic Excellence (BGS IC CAE) hosted a Social Networking and Intelligence Workshop within the Posey Auditorium. The workshop was facilitated by Mr. Eric Long, who is an instructor with the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training (DOCJT). The workshop provided the seated audience of ~50 individuals a better understanding of web-based social networking and presented law enforcement techniques on how to navigate and conduct investigations via social networking websites. The audience also gained an understanding of the Dark Web, which contains content not indexed by conventional search engines and is where criminal activity is persistent. As part of the workshop, audience members utilized laptops and tables under the direction of Mr. Long to access websites and to learn investigative techniques. Audience members included EKU faculty, staff, and students as well as professionals from local, state, and federal agencies and organizations.
Housed within the College of Justice and Safety, the BGS IC CAE is a federally-funded program that focuses on preparing the next generation of intelligence and national security professionals. Workshops are just one of the many activities the BGS IC CAE hosts each semester. For more information on the BGS IC CAE, please visit http://bgsiccae.eku.edu/.
